ACCOMMODATION Casa Simonicchi is a long stone farmstead built against a hillside. It is arranged on three separate floors. The lower two are used by the owner, who is a sculptress, and her mother. The High Gallery (click here for photographs) has six steps to the entrance. There is an option, if there are more than four in the party, to rent the additional en-suite room over the arch.
Farmhouse seen from the approach road The apartment is self-contained and has the relaxed feeling of a long gallery looking across the valley. It was formed from the hayloft over the barn and the quaint top floor of the farmhouse. It sleeps 4, but is spacious enough to entertain 6 if using the additional en-suite bedroom. It is let on a weekly basis and is ideal for three-generation family holidays, parents, grandparents and young children. There are long garden terraces, a scenic barbecue patio, vine-covered pergolas and easy parking space. An old track leads across the chestnut forest to the village of Fragaiolo (meaning 'strawberry place') on the other side of the valley. The High Gallery is the perfect place to unwind. The sitting room is spacious and airy, the secluded roof terrace is ideal for sunbathing having its own outdoor shower and is a beautiful outdoor space for wining and dining. The furnishings are in harmony, a mixture of Italian and English, antique and 'old but pleasing'. There are sculptures, paintings and ceramics. The floors are of tile and terracotta. The farmhouse ceilings are beamed. The whole house has been taken to pieces and put together again - a lengthy process and a real labour of love. The other en-suite double bedroom is available if you have a slightly larger group. It is situated above the arch looking over the little piazza.
